Brands have to have a social media presence. And it\u2019s really difficult.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>At a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acaweb.ca\/en\/webinars\/\">ACA Webinar<\/a>, McGarry took attendees on a tour of today\u2019s social media challenges and opportunities then laid out best practices, insights and hacks they could use to improve their strategy. The following are just some of the highlights from the hour-long session.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The real thing:<\/strong> 61% of Internet users are fake, said McGarry, whether it be bots or spiders that are going to brand websites. Compare that with Facebook, where just 8.7% of users are fake.<br \/>\n\u201cGenerally, when people are \u2018liking\u2019 things, commenting, sharing, they are generally real people,\u201d McGarry said. \u201cThis is the reason it\u2019s really important brands have a strong social media presence.\u201d <\/li>\n<li><strong>There are two key strategies for social media<\/strong> and they\u2019re the same from the beginning of social \u2013 Awareness and \u201cSoLoMo\u201d or Social, Local and Mobile.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be Facebook first, but not Facebook only.<\/strong> Facebook remains the most popular social platform, according to U.S. data from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pewinternet.org\/2016\/11\/11\/social-media-update-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pew Research Center<\/a>. Of note, Pinterest use is now at 31%. McGarry says he encourages clients to diversify across social platforms, since investing too heavily in one leaves an organization vulnerable to a change to one\u2019s algorithm.\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Post frequently on Facebook.<\/strong> About 12% of fans of your brand page will see each of your posts, McGarry said, based on Facebook\u2019s algorithms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And lastly, some of the Social Media Hacks McGarry shared<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Like &#038; respond to comments for the last 90 days to jumpstart your reach<\/li>\n<li>Uploading directly from mobile (iPad is not mobile) leads to better organic reach<\/li>\n<li>Using emojis in copy and replies results in higher organic reach and engagement<\/li>\n<li>Posting images to Facebook via Instagram provides a 23% increase in engagement<\/li>\n<li>The minimum time to be live for Facebook Live should be 20 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>ACA members can learn more, including best practices for using Facebook Live, by visiting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acaweb.ca\/en\/webinars\/#tabs-3\" target=\"_blank\">ACA Webinars archive<\/a> and downloading the video recording and slides from Jumpwire\u2019s webinar on social media.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, social media remains, rightly, a top priority for marketers, but the rules of engagement on the major platforms are constantly evolving.
